Ohio Senate Democrats Propose Extra School Funding, Other Budget Amendments

Sen. Nina Turner says one amendment will create something known as the targeted investment fund.

"The targeted investment fund will drive resources to schools that need them the most," she said. "The plan will eliminate the income tax cut for the top two brackets and redirect approximately $500 million over the biennium to Ohio schools. These funds are split between additional dollars for transportation, to fund it outside the gain cap, and the targeted investment fund, monies going to schools to give addition resources to educate Ohio’s children."

In addition to this education amendment, Democrats also intend to offer amendments to expand Medicaid, lower the cost of college tuition and raise the severance tax to provide more dollars for workforce training.
