Voters Generous with Levies

Voters cast off concerns about the Cuyahoga County corruption probe and okayed a human services levy by a margin of two to one. A big tax increase for the Shaker Heights schools passed despite organized opposition. Parma's renewal levy passed, but the increase failed. Elyria's school levy passed, but Lorain's failed, as did one in Avon. Lakewood's school levy passed, but voters said no in Hudson, Chardon, Streetsboro, Rootstown and North Olmsted. School bond issues were approved in Westlake, Rocky River and Beachwood; but failed in Norton and Columbia. The closest vote of the day came in the Southeast local school district where a levy renewal failed by just 22 votes.
