The Ohio Department of Education's results show most urban schools in the region continue to struggle. Cleveland Metropolitan Schools dropped to academic watch, though graduation rates rose. Akron graduated over 76% of its students-besting the state standard, though reading and math scores among special education students lagged.
One bright spot is Cleveland's Citizen's Academy. The charter school, which serves kindergarten through eighth graders from Cleveland's east side, was judged effective - the third highest rating in overall performance in the statewide assessment.
Executive director Perry White said fourth-graders bested their peers in reading and math.
PERRY WHITE: "Not only did we close the achievement gap, but our students actually outperformed by a significant margin the state average for non-minority students."
Partial results have been coming from the state department of education over the last few weeks. Schools received their final grades Monday.
