Each school will have a security guard for every door and at least one metal detector. Cleveland Schools CEO Eugene Sanders did not say how long that would take, but he did say it would cost roughly $4 million.
Initially, Sanders called last Wednesday's shootings a disappointing, societal failure that brought about a necessary review of school safety. He later took personal responsibility.
Eugene Sanders: Are things I wish I could have done differently the day before the week before, absolutely. I would love to turn back the hands of time. Maybe one statement I could have made to this student.
Right now, the school district owns 10 metal detectors and has a total of 168 police and security officers.
The plan also includes more safety training for teachers, additional counselors, psychologists, and social workers available to students and staff. The district provided the same services at four rec centers on Thursday, but only a handful of people showed up.
SuccessTech Academy will resume classes tomorrow. Parents and guardians are invited to an evening Open House. The remaining Cleveland schools are due to re-open today.
