Good morning, iOpeners. It's Thursday, April 4, 2019.

The Vindicator reports U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan is expected to announce today that he’s running for president. The Democrat is scheduled to appear this morning on the ABC talk show “The View” to discuss his decision.  He told the newspaper last week he was close to making a decision about a 2020 bid.  William Padisak, president of the Mahoning-Trumbell AFL-CIO, said Ryan recently asked him to get the word out about a labor rally Ryan was planning Saturday in downtown Youngstown.

In a sign he may be considering another presidential bid, former Gov. John Kasich has formed a policy group with other high-profile critics of President Trump to promote center-right political viewpoints. Board members of Two Paths America include former Weekly Standard editor William Kristol, who has openly discussed backing a primary challenger to Trump.

A Catholic college prep school in South Euclid is suing that city over its anti-discrimination laws protecting LGBTQ people.  The Lyceum argues the ordinance threatens religious freedom. South Euclid added sexual orientation and gender identity to its non-discrimination laws last year.

Gov. Mike DeWine has signed a transportation budget that boosts the state’s fuel tax by 10.5 cents, to a total of 38.5 cents a gallon.   The tax on diesel rises, too, by 19 cents a gallon.  The new tax rates start July 1. The legislation also removes the requirement for a front license plate, beginning in 2020.

The Chicago White Sox knocked around Corey Kluber for a change, sending him packing in the fourth inning in their 8-3 win over the Indians at Progressive Field.  The ace allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits in just three and a third innings. The two-time Cy Young Award-winner won his previous nine straight decisions over the White Sox.
