MetroHealth Campus Project Expected To Be Half Park, Half Hospital

Cuyahoga County’s public health care provider, MetroHealth, is three months away from unveiling the design of its new hospital on W. 25 th Street.

The plan is to change the main hospital campus from a built-out urban one, according to MetroHealth’s Walter Jones.

"There is about a lone acre or so of green space on this campus. What we wanted to do is to change MetroHealth’s 52 acres on the near west side," said Jones.

Jones presented those ideas to Cuyahoga County Council’s economic development committee meeting Monday.

The plan right now includes three parks on the campus.

They’ll build a park along each side of the campus, meant to connect the facilities with the neighborhoods next to it. And possibly another interior park within the built area reserved for patients, visitors and staff.

MetroHealth sold almost $1 billion in bonds last year to finance the project.

The plan is to release a design for the new hospital in June and finish construction in 2022.
