The US Senate has confirmed two nominees to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which could affect several pipeline projects in Ohio.
The full Senate approved, without opposition, two Republican appointees on Thursday. The confirmation of Neil Chaterjee and Robert Powelson restores a quorum at FERC, the agency that issues permits for interstate pipeline projects and sets policies for interstate power markets.
In Ohio, there are five pending applications for interstate pipelines, including the $2 billion, 250-mile NEXUS pipeline. FERC has also intervened in the construction of the Rover Pipeline, halting construction in some areas, because of several spills and a dispute between the pipeline’s owner and Ohio’s Environmental Protection Agency.
