Former Mayor Brewer Questions Invalid Signatures

Former East Cleveland Mayor Eric Brewer, is one of three potential candidates for Cleveland mayor who did not initially collect enough valid signatures to appear on the September ballot.  Brewer says more than six hundred signatures were rejected because the address on the petition didn’t match the voter registration card. Brewer took to Facebook to challenge that ruling. But Tony Kallagher of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections explains those signatures didn’t meet Ohio law.

“It’s just required in the state of Ohio that your registration must be up to date and it must match," Kallagher said. "But like I said, the petition gatherer should ask the voter, ‘have you recently moved?’”

The Board of Elections gave the three candidates -- including Robert Kilo and Tony Madalone -- until July 5, to provide additional signatures.
