Two Republican members of Ohio’s congressional delegation voted against their party’s health care bill Thursday. Dave Joyce from the 14 th District, which borders Lake Erie east of Cleveland, and Michael Turner from the Dayton-area 10 th District, both voted 'no.' They were two of 20 House Republicans to vote against the American Health Care Act.
The bill is meant as a replacement of the Affordable Care Act and eliminates several provisions of that law, including the requirements for individuals to carry insurance and for some companies to provide it to their employees.
In a statement, Joyce said he opposed the bill because it would lead to higher premiums and cuts in coverage. Turner also cited higher premiums in explaining his 'no' vote. The AHCA now heads to the senate, where it faces opposition from both sides.
