Cleveland’s airport director said an unattended bag led to the shutdown of part of the ticketing area Tuesday afternoon, but “nothing of a threatening manner” was found in it.
Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport Director Robert Kennedy said a luggage handler saw the bag and notified TSA. He said authorities spoke with the owner of the bag and sent him on his way.
“They’ve identified the individual,” Kennedy said. “He’s been questioned by the Cleveland police department and by the federal authorities. There will be a report written, and a recommendation whether any charges should be filed.”
Kennedy said a dog responded to the bag as if something were there, but that a hand search by the bomb squad turned up nothing threatening. He declined to elaborate on what was found in the bag.
The airport entrance was closed off for about two hours, and buses and trains were not allowed into the area. Kennedy said some planes were able to take off and land, while others were delayed.
