Lawsuit Filed Against Sunoco For Lorain County Pipeline Spill

The federal government is suing a Pennsylvania-based pipeline company for a 2012 gasoline spill in Lorain County.

According to court papers filed last week in Ohio’s Nothern District court, a 2007 inspection of the Fostoria-Hudson pipeline showed a defect at the same site where the spill occurred. But the Philadelphia-based company, Sunoco Pipeline, LP, failed to fix the issue.

On Jan. 12, 2012, 1950 barrels of gasoline leaked into the west branch of the Black River and White Ditch River. Seventy residents were forced to leave the area for a week.

The government is seeking $2 million in fines from Sunoco.
