ideastream made a commitment to the community to help Northeast Ohio residents become healthier through better access to health information and more in depth reporting on health issues. ideastream multiple media efforts are conducted with a wide range of partners in health information and reach millions of people delivering information on critical health issues through “Be Well,” an ongoing series on radio, television, web and events.
Currently, “Be Well” delivers health information on 90.3 WCPN ideastream via radio reports, news, discussions on “The Sound of Ideas,” and weekly check-in’s with health reporters and professionals. On WVIZ/PBS ideastream, viewers find “Be Well” a weekly television series in addition to television specials, interviews and overviews on the television program “Ideas,” age-appropriate segments on the educational television series, “NewsDepth” and perspectives on health and the arts on “Applause” and “The City Club Forum.” Web-only content and some special events round out the multiple media approach.
The “Be Well” series provides multiple media focus on particular health issues over a period of time. The format includes interviews with experts, current treatment options and the latest research, and the sharing of personal stories. During live specials, the audience can engage directly with health professionals through a range of resources, allowing them to close the loop and make health-improving changes in their own lives.
The ideastream Campaign for Community is extending of the impact of “Be Well” in the community by enabling:
- The development of more, in-depth content on topics important to the health of the community locally and nationally
- The creation of shorter, impactful segments to serve local and national audiences through broadcast and, importantly, through social and mobile media
- The production of more in-depth and comprehensive coverage of health topics important to the community, including: The Affordable Care Act; end of life care; family and societal costs related to the growing rates of autism; Medicare and Medicaid issues and their effects on the people in Northeast Ohio, family and home caregivers; and advances in health technologies and innovations in health care
- The development of the technology platform to ensure that programming lives on through 24/7 accessibility on the ideastream website
