WCLV's Jacqueline Gerber chats with Dean Southern, dean of the Cleveland Institute of Music and director of the CIM Opera Theater, about the film of "Dido and Aeneas," which employed 21st-century technological magic to provide student singers with a safe way to perform Henry Purcell's 17th-century opera safely before COVID vaccines were available. First, the orchestra recorded the music track. Second, the students recorded their singing parts individually. Just like in a real movie musical, the visuals came next, at a well-known Cleveland location, followed by editing and the premiere, which will include a pre-screening discussion with the creative team.
