The Akron Symphohny Orchestra returns to public performances in the great outdoors. The summertime series is called Outside Voices - a double meaning in that the Orchestra will be playing outside, and the repertoire will focus on many composers whose material has seldom or never been heard in the course of regular performances. Some names are familiar, others less so, The Orchestra will play music by William Grant Still, Florence Price, J. Rosamond Johnson and other African-American comopsers, alongside more familiar names such as Gustav Holst.. For this summer's concerts, the Akron Symphony will generally perform in separate sections - pieces featuring strings, for instance, contrasting with the winds of the Orchestra. The Akron Symphony's Music Director, Christopher Wilkins, took some time out to talk about the series, whcih continues through August.
On-demand interviews with local and national classical music artists.
