Rock Hall CEO Announces Retirement

Terry Stewart has led the Rock Hall since 1999, and has seen it through nearly $7 million worth of renovations, the formation of its library and archives, and a $35 million capital campaign. He also arranged for the facility to host the Rock Hall’s induction ceremonies every three years.

Stewart says with all that behind him, it’s a good time as any to step down. But he says he’ll still be involved with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Whether it’s volunteering, board stuff...consulting," muses Stewart. "I think there’s multiple opportunities, and so does the board. And maybe I got a book in me, somewhere. I have been blessed, I ran both Marvel Comics and the Rock Hall of Fame, so in terms of pop culture over the past almost 25 years, I’ve been in the midst of it.”

At 66, Stewart says he’s settled in the Cleveland area. The Alabama native says he and his wife love the city and want to experience its “great renaissance” in the years to come.

Meanwhile, a search committee is being formed to find his successor.
