Petting Zoo: Cold-Stunned Turtles

Marine experts and volunteers in Cape Cod are rescuing and rehabilitating sea turtles affected by cold-stunning, a form of hypothermia caused by dropping ocean temperatures.

At the Sea Turtle Hospital in Quincy, around 200 turtles, including loggerhead, Kemp's Ridley, and green turtles, are being treated after washing up on Cape Cod beaches in critical condition.

These turtles, primarily juveniles, are drawn north by warmer waters but become trapped by rapidly cooling temperatures.

The hospital's treatment involves hydration, antibiotics, and gradual warming before the turtles are released back into the wild.
