Kerry McCormack is now a Cleveland City Councilman.
Last night, the council unanimously approved his appointment by out-going councilman Joe Cimperman.
Councilman Kerry McCormack spent his first day on the job setting up his office and meeting with his new staff, city leaders and constituents.
The 28 year-old lifelong Cleveland resident says his position at Ohio City Incorporated, a neighborhood community corporation, has prepared him for his new role.
The Miami of Ohio grad is fluent in Spanish. And he says many of the projects he worked on as Director of Community Affairs he’ll now continue as a councilman.
McCormack says that experience gave him a unique understanding of the people and issues in Ward Three.
He says he knows Joe Cimperman left a legacy that he is excited to continue.
“I am really really excited to get out to meet people in the ward that I have yet to meet,” McCormack said. “That is going to help shape my radar, my perspective, my approach and my agenda from hearing from people.
McCormack replaces Cimperman who stepped down after 18 years to become the director of Global Cleveland, a nonprofit working to attract immigrants and overseas businesses to greater Cleveland.
