Subodh Chandra, the attorney representing Tamir Rice's family, released a statement following Cuyahoga County Prosectuor Timothy McGinty's announcement that the grand jury will not indict the police officers involved in the Rice shooting last year.

"Tamir's family is a saddened and disappointed by this outcome-- but not surprised," Chandra wrote in his statement.

Chandra also expressed disappointment at the way McGinty handled the grand jury process.

"The way Prosecutor McGinty has mishandled the grand-jury process has compounded the grief of this family...This special treatment would never be given to non-police suspects."

Chandra also singled out McGinty's hiring of expert witnesses to assist in the case.

"It is unheard of, and highly improper, for a prosecutor to hire 'experts' to try to exonerate the targets of a grand-jury investigation."

The statement ended with a request for the Departent of Justice to step in to conduct another investigation.
