Future Of Ohio's Green Energy Standards Up In The Air

The lawmaker who began the discussion that ended with the halting of the state’s green energy standards last year has a prediction about the future of those standards. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports.

A panel of lawmakers has been studying the cost and effectiveness of the green energy standards since they were halted.

Republican Bill Seitz of Cincinnati had wanted to scrap the standards entirely. He said a lawsuit filed by the state in August over the federal Clean Power Plan will affect that panel’s recommendations.

“I think something on the order of the indefinite postponement on the resumption of the march up “Mandate Mountain” is in order in the interest of giving the administration the most flexibility in designing a state implementation plan without being constrained by a seven or eight year old law,” Seitz said.

The recommendations are due October 1.
