Gov. John Kasich has picked up his first endorsement from one of his fellow Republican governors. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports.
"John Kasich is a great leader."
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley also described Kasich as a champion, and a great man to lead our country as he announced his support of Kasich in Birmingham. Kasich said he was emotional to hear of Bentley's endorsement.
"There's just something special about Alabama beyond Bear Bryant."
Bentley is the third current Republican governor to endorse a candidate - the governors of Maryland and Maine have endorsed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who chaired the Republican Governors' Association last year when they were on the ballot.
And this endorsement is seen as a slight to former governors of two nearby states, Louisiana's Bobby Jindal and Florida's Jeb Bush. Kasich now heads to South Carolina to officially file paperwork to run in that state's primary in February.
