A panel of judges and legal experts tackled some long-term issues and questions that have come up since the U.S Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.
Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports.
One lingering question since the U.S. Supreme Court ruling has been this: Do religious institutions still have the right to deny conducting same-sex marriage?
During a panel discussion through the Ohio State Bar Association, Judge David Hejmanowski, from the Delaware County probate and juvenile court, noted that Justice Anthony Kennedy made sure to include this right in his ruling.
"He says, 'Finally it must be emphasized that religions and those who adhere to religious doctrines may continue to advocate with utmost sincere conviction that by divine precepts same-sex marriage should not be condoned.' So that seems pretty clear from the statement from Justice Kennedy as well," said Hejmanowski.
The panel said there are other long-term issues that are bound to come up, particularly when it comes to child custody among same-sex spouses.
