The latest Census shows the population of Northeast Ohio is shrinking, trending older and remains predominently white. But there are some significant exceptions. From Ohio Public Radio station WKSU M.L. Schultze has more.
The Census numbers show the 22 counties in Northeast Ohio lost more than 80,000 people from 2010 to 2014. And that includes a drop in African-Americans even with urban centers like Cuyahoga County.
But the numbers also show a substantial increase in people of Asian descent - especially in Summit and Portage counties - which have seen a spike of more than 25 percent.
Many of them are Nepalese/Bhutanese refugees. Amber Subba arrived in 2008.
"A lot of people are buying houses. They feel like this is our place now. We need to involve in the development of this area. So it's getting better. It's still learning.
Subba's family spent 17 years in a refugee camp in Nepal before coming to the U.S. His father, who is 60, became a U.S. citizen this year.
