Republican state senators will unveil their budget Monday morning, and their leader is hinting at a few details. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports.
Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) said the specifics of the budget are still being hammered out, but he did reveal two changes.
"We believe we are going to be able to include judges, sheriffs and prosecutors in the bill for a possible pay raise," Faber said. "We continue to believe that we can increase the amount of the total net tax cut above what the House did."
Democratic Senate leader Joe Schiavoni (D-Boardman) said he isn't surprised about the tax cut increase. But he added: "The concern of ours, as a caucus, is that they're going to raise a bunch of different taxes in order to get there or you're going to cut significantly very important programs that impact everyday Ohioans."
Some sources have suggested slight increases in taxes on tobacco products and oil and gas drillers are a possibility. Those were in Gov. John Kasich's budget but were stripped out by the House.
