Ohioans are receiving calls showing 9-1-1 on the caller ID. The call is an alert saying that there's a warrant out for that person's arrest and they need to call a certain number to the attorney general's office to avoid legal action.
It's a fake number that goes straight to the scammers who then ask the victims for personal information.
DeWine wants people to know that seeing 911 on the caller ID doesn't mean it's official.
DeWine: "They have the ability-scammers do to what we call spoof that phone number up there so that's no indication at all of what that's coming from."
The attorney general adds that people can always ask for a request for information to come by mail.
