Law Allows Thousands Of Ohio Adoptees Access To Birth Records

Wendy Barkett traveled from Texas to be among the first to get her birth records and find out about her birth parents.

"When you don't know, you don't know and it's kinda like this void."

Most want their medical histories, and say they're trying to be realistic about their expectations. 45 year old Joey Ashbridge came from West Virginia. He wants to thank his birth mother.

"I did have the greatest mom and dad ever. And without her giving me up for adoption, I would have never had that chance."

Advocates suggest adoptees have support if they make the decision to access their records, because it's likely to be a very emotional experience.
