Nearly 235,000 Ohioans signed up for individual health insurance on the federal marketplace as of the deadline Sunday night, according to federal officials.
The state's sign-ups increased 50 percent as compared to last year's enrollment of 154,000.
"No one's waving a flag of victory but we're very pleased with how things went and we're looking forward to doing even better next year," Kevin Counihan, director and chief executive of the marketplace, said during a conference call.
Officials said Wednesday that there was a backlog on healthcare.gov Sunday night as applicants rushed to enroll. For those who did begin an application online, but failed to finish, officials are extending enrollment until the end of this week.
A total of 11.4 million people signed up nationally, beating projections federal officials announced last year.
