Plymouth Church UCC
2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Heights

BlueWater Concertmaster Kenneth Johnston, Violinist Charles Morey (Indianapolis Symphony), Violist Kirsten Docter (Cavani String Quartet) and Cellist Bryan Dumm (Cleveland Orchestra) play the roles of the main characters in this haunting (Halloween) tale narrated by the magical voice of WCLV’s Robert Conrad. An entertaining piece for all ages, the piece includes narration of the Washington Irving story on which it is based. It is unusual in that each of the characters in the story is portrayed by one of the members of the quartet, requiring the instrumentalists to add a bit of acting to their playing. The program opens with the Arnold Schoenberg arrangement of Debussy’s beautiful Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. Respighi’s sparkling Trittico Botticelliano paints musical images of Botticelli’s La Primavera (Spring), L’adorazione del Magi and La nascita de venere (Birth of Venus).

Program
Ottorino Respighi: Trittico Botticelliano
Claude Debussy (arr. Schoenberg): Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Jon Deak: “The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow,” Concerto for String Quartet, Orchestra and Narrator

BlueWater Chamber Orchestra concerts are family friendly, lasting about 75 minutes and played without intermission. Plymouth Church is wheelchair accessible.
