Kasich may be miles in front of his Democratic opponent Ed FitzGerald in next month’s gubernatorial race, but he’ll face some high hurdles if he runs for President in 2016, starting from within his own party.
That’s the conclusion of writer Connie Schultz in a piece for Politico magazine.
She writes that Kasich, who may position himself as a savior of the Republican establishment, may hit a wall of criticism from conservative Republicans, including Tea Partiers, who feel he betrayed them by expanding Medicaid in Ohio
In the piece, Ohio’s Republican Party chairman tried to downplay suggestions Kasich had strained his relationship with conservatives, saying the governor is of the Tea Party.
And Schultz, who’s married to Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, offers a journalist’s word of caution to the governor. She writes that on the national stage, Kasich can’t evade debates as he has Ohio -- and she says he’ll have to start answering more questions from reporters.
