On Saturday, August 23, at Gartner Auditorium, the Cleveland International Piano Competition presented the third of its 2014 off-season concerts. It was a rare event for any piano competition – given the individual schedules that professional musicians have. CIPC was able to bring back the four finalists from the 2013 competition at one time, in one place! First Place Stanislav Khristenko of the Ukraine, Second Place Arseny Trasevich-Nikolaev of Russia, Third Place François Dumont of France and Fourth Place Jiayan Sun of China. And WCLV was there for this unique musical event. You can hear it all on Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:00 PM.
The first half featured members of Apollo's Fire, Cleveland's Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Jeannette Sorrell, accompanying the Bach Two Piano Concertos, BWV 1061 and 1062. Stanislav and Jiayan on 1061; Arseny and François on 1062. The second half of the program held duo piano selections by Mozart, Milhaud and Rachmaninoff. The joyful event concluded with an amazing and somewhat crowded performance of a piece for one piano and eight hands – Albert Lavignac’s Galop Marche. Great fun!
