Local Cleveland artist Gerry Shamray's work featured at Loganberry Books
For lovers of quirky drawings, wacky cartoons, and fresh digital artistry, an opportunity to immerse in this niche world is fast approaching. Gerry Shamray, a local Cleveland artist whose past work includes drawing cartoons that appeared in The Plain Dealer, The Sun News and newspapers across the country, is hosting an art show featuring his nationally recognized drawings. From August 6th to September 1st, Clevelanders will have the opportunity to view, learn about, and purchase Shamray’s work.
Much of the artwork to be featured at the show is created digitally. The digital artwork includes highly-detailed black and white line drawings as well as full color art with a 3D-like pop. The sleek computerized artwork is the product of Shamray’s Wacom Cintiq tablet attached to his MacBook Pro. “I’m a digital artist and I enjoy combining old school art with new tech,” explains Shamray. The digital pieces feature humorous themes in contrast to his more realistic black and white artwork.
Shamray is no stranger to drawing. As a top Cleveland cartoonist he’s helped ink the nationally syndicated comic strip, “John Darling.” He is perhaps best known for his sketchy life-like drawings of Harvey Pekar in the comic book “American Splendor.” The comic book was turned into a hit movie starring Paul Giamatti. Shamray has been drawing since he received his first box of crayons as a child and continues to create bright colorful images and imaginative stories.
Gerry Shamray’s “Fine Lines and Felines” Art Show will be held at Loganberry Books in Shaker Heights from August 6th to September 1st. Guests can attend an opening reception from 6:00pm-8:00pm on August 6th and hear from Shamray himself. Loganberry Books is located at 13015 Larchmere Boulevard in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
