Police in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek shot Crawford earlier this month inside a local Walmart. Police have said Crawford was brandishing an air rifle and that they believe the shooting was justified.
Protesters in Dayton and Columbus have since called on Walmart and DeWine to release video of what happened when Crawford was shot. But DeWine said releasing the video could compromise the investigation.
"As Attorney General, it’s my duty to make sure that this investigation is comprehensive and thorough," DeWine said. "At the same time, people understandably want answers. And we are moving as quickly as we can to complete our investigation."
DeWine said he showed a portion of the video to Crawford’s father and his attorney on Tuesday morning, and he extended his sympathies to the family.
The grand jury convenes in Greene County Sept. 5 to decide whether to press criminal charges against the two officers.
