Environmental advocates are calling on Ohio Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman to lead the charge and extend wind energy incentives by the end of the year.
Environment Ohio says wind energy cuts down on so much carbon pollution - it's equivalent to taking more than 124,000 cars off the road. The group claims it also saves water and avoids smog causing pollutants.
This research is nothing new. Vivian Daly of Environment Ohio says the group simply compiled all the benefits in a plea to state and federal leaders.
"The reason that's important is because at the end of this year the federal incentives for wind-the Investment Tax Credit and the Production Tax Credit-are set to expire. So we need to show our federal leaders that we cannot go without wind energy in Ohio."
Daly says there are issues in Ohio that also threaten the benefits of wind energy, including attempts to repeal the state's renewable and efficient energy policies.
