In an emailed statement, an American Greetings press officer says the company set a goal of improving its business results over the next three years, and this included developing strategic plans to achieve its financial goals. This led to the "difficult but necessary business decision" to cut AG Interactive Staff at its world headquarters in Brooklyn, Ohio.
Next to Key Bank, American Greetings is that city's largest employer. It's moving ahead with plans to relocate its headquarters to Westlake by 2014.
Meanwhile, American Greetings also laid off nine workers in its West Coast operations, namely Seattle and Los Angeles.
