During a press conference in Tennessee, Jimmy Haslam said that several people at Pilot Flying J were subpoenaed during a raid on Monday by the FBI and IRS. The Associated Press reports the FBI served four search warrants.
Pilot Flying J said in a statement released to media that it believed the investigation centered on rebates given to some trucking customers.
At the press conference, Haslam maintained that the number of customers involved was small, and that he disagreed with the contention that his company didn’t pay the rebates.
Federal agents with the FBI and IRS told ideastream they couldn’t comment on the details of the investigation because it’s still ongoing.
The AP reports that Haslam’s brother, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, told reporters he didn’t know why his family’s company was searched.
Jimmy Haslam told Cleveland’s News Channel 5 at the Tennessee press conference that he was sorry for any worry this investigation might cause Browns fans.
“The last thing we ever want to do is bring any kind of blemish on the city of Cleveland, which we’ve grown to love," he said.
