Ohio’s largest daily will still be delivered on Sundays and two other days to be announced later.
And beginning this summer, the Northeast Ohio Media Group will provide content for print and digital editions of the Plain Dealer , as well as handle ad sales and marketing for the paper, Cleveland-dot-com and Sun newspapers.
Plain Dealer publisher Terry Egger says the change is spurred by changes both in technology and readership.
"It's just undeniable, the breakneck speed of how people are moving to digital devices to consume their news and information," Egger explains. "And we just can't get left behind there. And so we've got to find resources to invest -- not just incrementally but substantially -- to serve our community with a print product, but also to innovate and have the best digital products and reports that we possibly can. And that's the real opportunity for the future."
Egger says circulation heads are meeting with carriers this week to discuss possible impacts to their workload. Staffers had organized to avoid a three-day publication cycle, as many other papers owned by Advance Papers have switched to. The New York-based company says such reductions have been necessary to keep competitive.
