1674 Jacques Hotteterre – French flutist and composer, also bassoonist and oboist (d.1763); an internationally celebrated teacher to aristocratic patrons and the most celebrated of a family of wind instrument makers and wind performers.

1918 first performance of Gustav Holst's The Planets, at Queen's Hall, London, conducted by the composer's friend Adrian Boult before an invited audience of about 250 people; first complete public performance was given in London by Albert Coates conducting the London Symphony on November 15th 1920; the seven-movement suite has been enduringly popular, influential, widely performed and frequently recorded.

1930 Richard Bonynge – Australian conductor and pianist (95 years old); as the husband of Australian dramatic coloratura soprano Dame Joan Sutherland, he conducted virtually all his wife's operatic performances from 1962 until her retirement in 1990.
