McGinty Sees Chance To Further Change

Tim McGinty won last night’s primary, beating out four other Democrats. The former assistant county prosecutor and judge says he’s already got “a lot of buy-in” from judges and other officials, as he works to continue pushing for reforms to make Cuyahoga County’s processing of criminals faster, fairer, and more accountable.

“And the way we sell it is by looking at the other jurisdictions who’ve taken in this reform across the country and the success they’ve in how they’ve improved the quality of the justice they deliver," says McGinty. "It’s good for everybody across the board. It saves money, improves public confidence and makes for a safer community. It’s just running a criminal justice system like a business rather than a secretive monopoly. Be transparent, be accountable, and let the chips fall where they may.”

McGinty says he’ll restore confidence in the Cuyahoga County Prosectuor’s office, which has been bypassed by federal investigators during recent corruption probes.

McGinty does have a challenger in November: Independent candidate Edward Wade Jr. But with a strong Democratic presence in the county, McGinty’s expected to win the office.
