Kasich Appoints Controversial Lawmaker To Geauga County Court

Senator Tim Grendell has served in the Ohio Senate since 2004. And during that time, he's sponsored some controversial legislation….pushing for private property rights for Lake Erie homeowners…and currently, he's sponsoring a plan in the senate that would require recipients of public aid to take drug tests in order to get that assistance.

He's also been out of step with the rank and file of his party at time. For example…Grendell is one of the Republican senators who voted against SB5 - the controversial collective bargaining law that's now up for a referendum by voters this November.

Gov. John R. Kasich has appointed Grendell to serve as judge of the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas. Grendell will assume office on September 21, 2011 and must run in November 2012 in order to serve out the remainder of the unexpired term ending February 8, 2015.
