The Latino population of Northeast Ohio's eight-county region grew by about 40% over the past ten years, which is comparable to national numbers. But, that's not the reason that the National Society of Hispanic MBAs chose Cleveland for their first Healthcare Summit. CEO Manuel Gonzalez says the city's reputation as a healthcare center made it a natural spot to host a conversation about specific medical challenges which he thinks aren't being adequately addressed.
MANUEL GONZALEZ: Hispanics participate in this healthcare problem through obesity, diabetes, and many other diseases. Is it because of cultural barriers? Or linguistic barriers? Or is it because of financial barriers? I think it is all three.
And all three are on the agenda of the Cleveland conference which also includes presentations about preventative medicine and healthcare reform.
