Pat Shurmur comes to Cleveland after a year as the offensive coordinator for the st. Louis rams and before that, nearly a decade working with quarterbacks and the offensive line under Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid.
The 45-year-old Shurmur told a packed media room that he was ready to get to work for his first gig as head coach and will focus on offense.
Pat Shurmur: "You have to have a gritty, well coordinated group of offensive linemen that either block the run or protect the passer so I've learned that at a young age in this profession without that, you have no chance."
Shurmur will be the franchise's 16th head coach. Shurmur's predecessor, Eric Mangini, was fired earlier this month after five wins and 11 losses this season.
