State tax revenue for last month was up 5% over projections – that adds up to nearly $66 million. And tax department spokesman John Kohlstrand says that’s not the only good news….
“We’re about 3% ahead of where we thought we’d be. That’s about $215 million dollars ahead.”
While he says this suggests that the state’s economy is performing better than expected, he’s very cautious when talking about how being ahead of projections might effect the multi-billion dollar budget gap starting next year.
“That certainly helps, but the next two year budget, I don’t think there’s anybody who thinks that budget is going to be easy.”
But Kohlstrand says for now, there’s no reason to think there will be any last minute cuts made to keep the current budget in balance.
