Earlier this year, an agreement was reached between farm group leaders, Governor Strickland and the Humane Society of the United States that the latter says would improve living conditions for livestock and animals in Ohio. It's been five months and so far, little has been checked off that checklist. So Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles talked with Wayne Pacelle, the Director of the Humane Society of the United States, about where he goes from here.
Pacelle's group has collected the required number of petition signatures needed to put an animal welfare initiative on the statewide ballot, just as the organization has done in other states. He could use those signatures to put the issue on the ballot in the future if he chooses.
