As a result of voter-approved county reform, the office of elected Auditor will be abolished at the end of this year, making way for a new, appointed position. County Commission President Peter Lawson Jones says an interim person, who will step in as Auditor for the next few months, will be chosen Thursday, at the next Board of Commissioners meeting.
JONES: We have already begun the search for the right person. We want somebody who's not political, we want somebody who's highly skilled --- quite possibly a CPA --- and somebody whose integrity and abilities are beyond question.
Jones says the County is canvassing area accounting firms to help identify such a candidate. They're also looking in-house for qualified candidates.
