When you hear the name Commodore Perry, what comes to mind? A hero from the war of 1812? Or perhaps a beer from Great Lakes Brewing Company? If it were not for the heroism of Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie, Ohioans would possibly be speaking with British accents today. Yet, Perry's accomplishments get nothing more than a quick mention in high school history texts. Author Craig Heimbuch has long thought Commodore Perry was not given his due and set out to travel in his footsteps. Heimbuch recently sat down with ideastream®'s Eric Wellman to talk about his book, Chasing Oliver Hazard Perry.
