The Medina County Port Authority is moving forward with an ambitious plan to build a 151 mile long fiber optic loop around the county - making broadband service available to businesses, schools, and governments that have never had that capability.
The county commission somewhat reluctantly agreed to serve as a financial backstop for the plans this week, which insures construction will begin by summer's end.
The project goals are expansive but neccessary, according to Medina County Economic Development Corporation Director Bethany Dentler.
