The study by Georgetown University's Center for Education and the Workplace forecasts job growth ten years after the recession and the amount of school needed for those jobs . By 2018, the report finds, 57 percent of jobs in the Buckeye state will require more than a high school diploma.
But here's the kicker: currently only 33 percent of Ohioans have that level of education. Nicole Smith is a senior economist who worked on the study and she says that percentage needs to rise dramatically or there won't be enough Ohio grads for the jobs.
Nicole Smith: The outcome of that is either those jobs go off shore or Ohio will have to become a net importer of educated workers in order to fill those positions.
Most of the new jobs forecast for the state are in healthcare, sales and education. The study's forecast for overall job growth in Ohio over the next ten years is 6 percent. Nationwide, the study predicts ten percent job growth by 2018.
