The new issue of the magazine Board Member Inc. surveyed more than six thousand directors and general counsels of the largest publicly traded firms in America, and found Cleveland's Jones Day was judged to be the second best law firm in America.
It was also one of only three firms not in the nation's four largest law centers, New York, Washington, Chicago, and L.A.
TK Kerstetter is President and CEO of the magazine, and says the criteria panelists used to judge the law firms was thorough.
TK KERSTETTER: "They're looking at litigation, they're looking at intellectual property, they're looking at investor relations, at governance, ...so all of those are issues where outside counsel would be used."
Kerstetter says the firms at the top of the list each showed an ability to adapt to handle the changing economy and changing issues in corporate America.
Jones Day had been ranked as high as seventh in previous issues of the annual survey by the magazine.
Jones Day has been headquartered in Cleveland more than 115 years, and employs 24-hundred lawyers.
