Big Trucks to Be Banned on Cleveland Bridge

ODOT spokeswoman Jocelyn Clemings says removing vehicles that weigh more than eight tons from the traffic flow will allow the bridge to handle an extra lane of car traffic safely in each direction.

Clemings: "We do feel very confident that the bridge can withstand the weight, fully loaded, cars in three directions, on each side of the bridge, so we're very confident in the structure itself."

Clemings says pickup trucks, luxury SUVs and even Hummers fall well under the weight limit.

Firetrucks and other emergency vehicles will be permitted to use the Innerbelt bridge. Heavy truck traffic will be detoured away using Route 490 and Interstate 77.
