In a strip mall off of Brookpark Road in Parma, a small sparsely furnished office is the makeshift campaign center for the local republicans. Normally the activity here is quieter - but on this night Cuyahoga county republicans young and old shared beer, pizza, and election excitement.
JOHN MCCAIN: Tonight I have a privilege given few Americans. The privilege of accepting our party's nomination for President of the United states
SUPPORTER: I'm Lovin' it I'm absolutely lovin it. I think senator McCain really is a maverick. You know I think he's got the ability to take this country where it needs to go and I think he made a great pick with Sarah Palin.
On a night that would seem to have been McCain's turn to shine - the mother, moosehunter and vice presidential hopeful was just about anyone could talk about. And not just in Parma. Even Cindy McCain gave Palin a plug.
CINDY MCCAIN: John has picked a reform minded, hocky momin', basketball shooting, salmon fishing, pistol packing mother of five for vice president. (cheering.)
Remarks that resonated with the Parma crowd.
SUPPORTER She's a strong woman and she can field dress a Moose. She's got the whole package
Patrick Kelley, is the deputy Manager for Jim Trakas' congressional campaign, and helps coordinate republican volunteers. He says he saw a big wave of support after Palin's speech at the convention.
Kelly: You know I walked in here at about 7:15 this morning and I had 27 voicemails - we signed up 59 volunteers today at this office alone.
And for one of four GOP offices in a traditionally democratic county, Kelly says that's significant, especially since many of the new volunteers are women, and some of whom have never participated in politics before. Gretchen Cuda 90.3
