Toledo Union Upset by Chrysler Cuts

Of the thousands of hourly shift cuts expected, 750 will be eliminated from the Toledo North plant is by the beginning of next year. The 4,000 workers at both the north and south Toledo plants make the Jeep Liberty and the Dodge Nitro.

Dan Hennenman is the chairperson for the Local 12 union workers at the plants. Hennenman says workers are upset by the news because they haven't heard directly from company headquarters. But, he's says once the do hear from Chrysler they have a list of demands.

Dan Hennenman: We will demand that Chrysler come down and offer retirement packages for our senior people as well as our some of our younger seniority people. And we will do what we call an inverse program where we rotate people in the plant out on unemployment for 2 weeks at a time, people who normally work 8 weeks, will take 2 weeks off and everyone will share in that.

With some 800 plant workers eligible for retirement the work rotations are an option that Hennenman hope will be a last resort.
